At the young age of 10 years, he had accidentally shot himself in the stomach and the incident made headlines in newspapers at that time owing to his father’s fame.

His mother was institutionalized in a mental hospital, where she committed suicide when Peter was just 10 years old. Moreover, he was unaware of the circumstances around his mother’s death until the age of 15 years.

He had smoked real mar**uana on screen for the film Easy Rider (1969).

John Lennon was inspired to write the song She Said She Said (1966) after a chance encounter with Peter at a party and hearing about his near-death experience in which he accidentally shot himself in the chest. The Beatles songwriter changed the title and lyrics of the song from “He Said” to “She Said” to mask the fact that it was based on Peter.

He was offered the role of Oliver Barrett in the film Love Story (1970) along with 10% of the film’s gross profit. However, he declined the offer and the role went to Ryan O’Neal.

Peter directed his father Henry Fonda in the 1979 film, Wanda Nevada.

His autobiography titled Don’t Tell Dad was published in 1998.
